Accessibility statement

University of York Mumbai website

This accessibility statement applies to the University of York Mumbai website.

Commitment to accessibility

The University of York Mumbai is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all users, including people with disabilities. We aim to provide an inclusive and user-friendly experience across all devices and assistive technologies.

We aim for this website to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 Level AA standards.

Accessibility has been embedded into our design and development process and follows the University of York design system, branding guidelines, and approved UI components wherever applicable.

Compliance status

We aim for this website to be fully compliant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards.

The website is currently undergoing final testing and review. Based on current implementation and ongoing validation, we expect the website to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards. Any issues identified during testing will be addressed as part of our ongoing accessibility improvements.

Accessibility features

The website has been designed and developed with the following accessibility considerations:

Clear structure and readable content

  • Logical heading hierarchy (H1–H6) to support screen readers and assistive technologies
  • Consistent typography, spacing, and layout patterns
  • Optimised font sizing and line spacing for readability across desktop and mobile devices
  • Clear paragraph structure to improve scanning and comprehension

Colour and contrast

  • All text, buttons, and interface elements are designed to meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratios
  • Primary text and critical interactive elements avoid low-contrast colour combinations
  • Links and buttons are visually distinct from body text
  • Visible hover and keyboard focus states are implemented

Keyboard accessibility

  • All interactive elements (navigation menus, buttons, accordions, links) are operable using a keyboard
  • Clear and visible focus indicators are provided
  • Skip links are implemented where appropriate to allow users to bypass repetitive content

Accessible images and media

  • Meaningful images include descriptive alternative text
  • Decorative images use null alt attributes (alt=””) so they are ignored by screen readers
  • Images used within UI components are semantically structured to support assistive technologies

Forms and interactive components

  • Form fields have programmatically associated labels
  • Inputs are accessible via keyboard and assistive technologies
  • Forms are tested across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices

Responsive and zoom support

  • Layouts adjust to different screen sizes
  • Content reflows appropriately when zoomed
  • Interactive elements maintain appropriate spacing and touch target sizes

Non-accessible content

We are currently conducting accessibility testing and audits across the website. At this stage, there is no known non-accessible content. Should any issues be identified during ongoing testing or through user feedback, they will be addressed and documented here

Testing and ongoing monitoring

Accessibility is considered throughout design and development. The website is tested using a combination of:

  • Manual accessibility reviews
  • Automated accessibility auditing tools
  • Keyboard-only navigation testing

Further testing with assistive technologies will be conducted as part of ongoing review cycles.

Accessibility will continue to be monitored and improved as the site evolves.

Third-Party content

Where third-party tools or embedded content are used, we aim to ensure they meet accessibility standards. However, we cannot guarantee the accessibility of third-party systems not fully under our control.

Reporting accessibility issues

We welcome feedback on the accessibility of this website. If you encounter accessibility barriers or require content in an alternative format, please contact us at [email protected].

When reporting an issue, please include:

  • The page URL
  • A description of the issue
  • The assistive technology or device used (if applicable)

We will aim to respond within a reasonable timeframe.

Statement preparation

This statement was prepared on 1st April 2026.
